THE STORY BEHIND THE BUILDS

ABOUT FUNKY PROJECTS

I've always been the sort of person who would rather build something than buy it.

IT ALL STARTED WITH CURIOSITY.

Even as a kid, I was fascinated by how things worked.

When I was about eight or nine years old, I'd find old radio cassette players and other bits of electrical equipment around the house, pull them apart and see what was inside.

I'd remove the little electric motors and take them over to my dad's workbench, where I'd use them to build miniature speedboats and all sorts of other weird and wonderful creations.

I suppose I've always had a mechanical mind. I've always wanted to understand how things work, what makes them tick and, more importantly, what else I could make with them!

And that curiosity has never really gone away.

FROM TAKING THINGS APART TO BUILDING BIGGER THINGS.

As I got older, my projects became a little more ambitious.

I've always loved cars, particularly sports cars, powerful engines and anything mechanical. Over the years, I've owned all sorts of different vehicles, and I've never lost that fascination with engineering and how things are put together.

But my passion for building things hasn't been limited to vehicles.

Around 12–14 years ago, I took on my first major house renovation. It was a property that needed completely transforming, and I absolutely loved the challenge. Since then, I've taken on three more house renovations.

Now, renovating an entire house might not sound quite as exciting as building a crazy vehicle, but to me, it's the same principle.

You start with something, imagine what it could become, and then figure out how to turn that vision into reality.

That's the part I've always loved — taking an idea and actually making it happen.

HOW FUNKY PROJECTS BEGAN

In 2019, I decided to start my YouTube channel, Funky Projects.

I didn't have some grand master plan, and I certainly didn't know where it would all lead. I just knew that I wanted to build things.

I wanted somewhere to share my projects, experiment with ideas and give myself a reason to pursue all those slightly ridiculous creations that had been floating around in my head for years.

And one particular project had been on my mind for a very long time.

Early Funky Projects

A CHILDHOOD FAVOURITE. A REAL-LIFE BUILD.

THE KNIGHT RIDER OBSESSION

Like a lot of people who grew up watching Knight Rider, I absolutely loved KITT.

There was just something about that black Pontiac Trans Am, the flashing red scanner, the futuristic dashboard and the idea of having a car that looked like nothing else on the road.

It was one of those childhood fascinations that never really left me.

Fast-forward to 2019, and I started seriously looking into buying a Knight Rider car of my own. But I quickly realised that if I wanted the car I'd always dreamed of, I was going to have to build it myself.

So that's exactly what I did.

I started building my first Knight Rider replica in 2019 and eventually sold it in 2021.

But that wasn't the end of my Knight Rider journey.

I'm now building my second KITT replica, and this one is going to be even more advanced, with improved technology, electronics and plenty of attention to detail.

For me, it's not just about owning a car that looks like KITT. It's about the challenge of creating it.

CARS, UFOS AND OTHER CRAZY IDEAS.

Of course, Funky Projects isn't just about Knight Rider.

Since starting the channel, I've worked on a whole collection of unusual projects.

I've built my own UFO project, taken on a mobility scooter build, and built two miniature petrol-powered racing quads, which I've taken out to tracks for testing and top-speed runs.

And those are just some of the things I've managed to squeeze in so far!

The truth is, I've got far more ideas than I've had time to build.

I can be walking down the street, looking at an unusual vehicle, watching something on YouTube or simply going about my day when an idea suddenly pops into my head.

Then I start thinking about how I could build it, how I could improve it or how I could create my own completely different version.

Sometimes the ideas are practical. Sometimes they're completely ridiculous. But that's half the fun.

WHY I DO IT.

People sometimes ask why anyone would spend so much time building something unusual when they could simply go out and buy something ready-made.

For me, the answer is pretty simple.

I just love building stuff.

I love the challenge, the problem-solving, the mechanical side of things and watching an idea slowly come together.

There's something incredibly satisfying about standing back at the end of a project and thinking, "I actually made that."

And having the Funky Projects YouTube channel gives me an opportunity to explore that creative side, follow my imagination and share the whole experience with other people.

Not every project goes according to plan. Things break, ideas change and sometimes what seemed like a brilliant idea turns into a much bigger challenge than expected.

But that's all part of the adventure.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING...

Funky Projects is something I'm continuing to build, both as a YouTube channel and as a brand.

I've got plenty more vehicles, inventions and ambitious builds planned for the future, and I'm looking forward to seeing just how far I can take it.

My hope is that people who follow Funky Projects get as much enjoyment and entertainment out of watching these creations come to life as I get from building them.

Whether you're into cars, engineering, unusual inventions or simply enjoy watching somebody attempt something a little bit crazy, you're in the right place.

WELCOME TO FUNKY PROJECTS.
